Happy New Year!
I spent a lot of time praying and reflecting on my last 2 years specifically but really my life in its entirety leading up to the new year. I had a very insightful conversation with someone to whom I hold dear about the difference between holding on and hanging on. We will definitely talk more about that soon but my point for bringing that up is that conversation resulted in my self evaluation.
What was I hanging onto that God didn’t want to go with me any longer?
In my Bible, the title of the passage for the scriptures referenced above is "Elihu Presents His Case Against Job. “ As I reflected on my own life, I envisioned an angel presenting my case to God on my behalf. Elihu’s perspective on suffering leading to spiritual growth and a deeper relationship with the Father was confirmation for me. Everything in my life had a purpose.
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
James 1:2-4 NLT
I firmly believe our responses matter and our choices determine the outcomes and the paths our lives end up on. So, from now on, I will be even more intentional about my actions and my reactions. And praying before making any decisions. I’m always grateful but I’m especially grateful for this revelation because I’m no longer questioning God on why things happen the way they do. I’m not hanging on to my past or replaying past hurts. I’m not holding anyone hostage with unforgiveness including myself. I’m no longer doubting that I was created for a purpose. And I will NEVER stop telling anyone willing to listen about the goodness of God.
However, I WILL immediately be obedient. I will go where I’m LEAD, and I will speak BOLDLY when instructed to do so.
Lastly,
I will unapologetically continue to be who God created me to be.
