DON’T GO BACK!
“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”
John 8:36 NLT
What has God freed you from? Whether it be an addiction, a relationship or mindset, leave it in your rear view. I know it’s easier said than done but while you’re rehearsing your highs of whatever it was, don’t forget the lows and the reason why you needed freeing in the first place.
I’m guilty of this myself and just when I need a reminder I hear three words…..
DON’T GO BACK!
Going back isn’t an option for me physically but mentally I find myself wishing things had turned out differently, but they didn’t. Then, I have to ask myself what am I going back to? God allowed me to walk through my trials for a reason. He delivered me out of darkness for a reason. He gave me a second chance for a reason.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
And if He made me new, I can’t go back to old ways of being, thinking or speaking. Because He’s already forgiven me, I can forgive myself. Now, I’m asking God to uproot anything in me that’s not like Him, that hinders me from fulfilling my full potential and my God given purpose, and to eradicate FEAR.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
Honestly, once you get a taste of His peace that surpasses ALL your understanding, His joy that can’t be explained, His unconditional love that overwhelms and chases you down and true freedom, you won’t want to go back to anything less than Gods best for your life.
I am not the same and I’m grateful for it. I’m not an expert on any of the things I’ve shared but I am experienced in the ideas I encourage. They are not my ideas but rather revelation of God’s living, breathing and active Word. How do you stay free? The answer is simple; by staying in God’s word, hiding it in your heart and calling it out when necessary. Worship also helps me stay grounded and another song that comes to mind is “I Won’t Go Back” by William McDowell because yes there is a song for everything ……
I've been changed, healed, freed, delivered
I've found joy, peace, grace, and favor
I can't go back
I can't go back to the way it used to be
To the way it used to be
Before Your presence came and changed me
All my shame, guilt, sin (they've been forgiven) forgiven
No more chains, fear (my past)
(My past) is over
My prayer for anyone reading this is that you’d be free of any type of bondage preventing God’s unfailing love to keep you from experiencing His promises. Also, that once you experience His love, forgiveness and His peace, you won’t even want to go back. Nor, will you allow anyone to make you!
