IF IT NEVER HAPPENS?
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you.
I will never abandon you.”
Hebrews 13:5 NLT
God knows the desires of our hearts. I have to laugh at myself on this one because when “Satisfied” by the Walls Group came up on my playlist I immediately thought, “God that was for me huh?” And it was.
The beautifully sung chorus went like this:
If I never get that house, that car
Or be a superstar
And my dreams never come true
Will I be satisfied with You?
And if no one ever knows my name
And my gifts don't bring me fame
If everything I have someday I lose
Will I be satisfied with You?
The song is kind of stuck right now so I figured I’d journal my thoughts. So, here goes. I looked up scriptures that spoke on being satisfied and looked up their definitions. To be satisfied means to be contented; pleased. To be content means to be in a state of peaceful happiness. This brings me back to the question I felt was being asked of me.
And if you never get it(whatever the desire is), will you still be satisfied? I have lots of thoughts on the difference between a want and a need, which is what I really think the question was about.
Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
Philippians 4:11 NLT
I’m not trying to say you shouldn’t reach for your dreams, that you shouldn’t want houses or cars, or even that wanting to have a lot of money is a bad thing. Absolutely not. I want all those things too. However, I believe the reason I was asked the question was to see what I desired more. I know this is all temporary (Hebrews13:14) and when I take my last breath none of it can go with me. While I’m here though, I want to share what I consider is His good news.
I don’t write for money but if it comes Hallelujah and if it doesn’t, Hallelujah. The same goes for the house, fortune and fame. And if what I write helps just one, I will be satisfied.
Phillip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
John 14:8
And if none of that other stuff ever comes, Yes Father.
I will be satisfied with You.
PS…. He is still able to give it all to you.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:33 NLT
